Kevin Plunder and Zabu escaped to the Land of Mists when Lord Plunder, Kevin's father, was killed by the Man-Apes. The Man-Apes gave Kevin the name Ka-Zar, which translates to "son of the tiger," as a result of his close and enduring friendship with Zabu.
